Let’s get into why and when we burn bridges:
We burn bridges we don’t know how to cross yet, and we also burn bridges we don’t want to cross back over.
It’s wild that the strategy we use to not allow ourselves to go backwards and shrink back to what once was is also the same strategy we use to not allow ourselves to play as big as we possibly can.
I remember when Kylie and I did our closing ceremony after we broke up from relationship 1.0. (If you haven’t learned about this… 🤯 listen to the podcast I did about it here — 🥲 alert.)
I was sitting outside in my car not wanting to go in. I sat there thinking, “I don’t want to do this.”
And then I asked myself, “Do I not want to do it because I genuinely just don’t want to do it, or do I not want to do it because the person who can do the closing ceremony doesn’t yet exist?”
The answer was number two. So I got out of the car and chose growth.
The Mark that could hold a closing ceremony and let go of a relationship with grace and deep love did not yet exist. He was only created through the experience.
That closing ceremony with Kylie was one of the most profound moments of my life, and also one of the most difficult to walk towards. This seems to be true for all of life’s most transformative moments, doesn’t it?
But this is what walking a new path does: it creates a new you.
Look for how you burn bridges you’re afraid of crossing — because what is on the other side of that bridge is a version of you that already exists. A version of you that knows the way.
Consider this: (we’re about to get a little existential)
Imagine if time is not linear. Imagine if at every moment you can feel into every other moment of your life. Imagine that your intuition, or the sense you get that’s guiding you when something is “off” or “aligned,” or that you need to have a conversation or say a thing, or do a thing, is because a future (other moment) version of you already knows. That your potential is already realized. It’s calling to you through what you feel… through what you might call intuition.
Everything you’re going through, and being called to go through, is inviting you to your greatest possibility. And you’ve already become it in another place and another time.
“The space between being a seed and being a tree requires the trust that the seed is already the tree, it just needs to become.”
Imagine if, instead of ignoring the feelings that come up for you, you turn towards them with curiosity? Imagine what’s possible if you saw your feelings and senses as having a divine intelligence…
What truths are calling to you? What feelings and nudges are making themselves known?
This is how true change begins… by being with what is. By exploring the answers and nudges that have always been present, but you’ve learned to numb. Often the path we’re being asked to walk deviates from the path we’ve been taught to walk.
But this is how we reclaim our lives. This is how we build trust in ourselves. This is how we (re)connect to our souls.
This is the path of being in integrity with our deepest truths. This is a path that is not for everyone… but, it might be for you.
Do you feel like there’s more to life? Do you feel like you can’t ignore the voice within you? Have you sensed that you’re capable of more? Not just when it comes to how you love, but also what you want to create with your life?
(My new community is allllll about supporting you to get and stay in alignment with the highest version of you.)
Helllllllllll yeah.
When we are not in a state of trusting ourselves and the universe, we don’t have access to true choice. We burn bridges to our past because we still don’t trust ourselves to choose what’s truly best for us. We burn the bridges to our future because we’re often terrified of it. We are afraid of becoming as powerful as we know we are. We are afraid of claiming what is true for us because we have to simultaneously grieve a life we’ve lived ignoring what’s possible and thus playing small.
If you’re ready to truly step into creating a life that feels aligned, stop delaying! You can’t pretend you don’t know! You can’t hide anymore!
Are you tired of feeling lost? Are you tired of feeling powerless? Are you tired of having your heart broken? Are you tired of finding yourself in the same types of relationships? Are you tired of not liking your job? Are you ready for more, but not sure what more is?
I have been tired of all of those things too. And what I know to be true, is that it is precisely in the moment we acknowledge our exhaustion that everything becomes possible.
You don’t have to keep doing things the same way.
Creating a life that feels authentic to who you truly are, aligned with your values, and one that brings you alive with joy is not only possible, it’s probable. It’s already been realized… a future you told me to tell you that.
Ready to take the leap?
Then leap. Now.
Much love,
Mark
P.S. If you’re someone who is wanting to next level and you know you need that extra nudge, then my new community is for you! We both know true change requires accountability. I know the transformative power of groups and surrounding ourselves with people who hold a high bar for their lives. This inspires us to do the same.
If this sounds like something you’re ready to be part of, make sure you put yourself on the waitlist so you’re the first to know when doors re-open.
The you that could walk through the closing ceremony didn’t exist until you did it. Yes, this is the way we rebirth ourselves. This post was absolute nectar. Thank you.
I should've brought the Kleenex when I hit play on your podcast Adulting is hard. Thank you for being the sound board of everything I feel and know to be true for myself while going through my own journey of grief. I wanted (or needed) to hear everything you said, and what you didn't say. Oh man, and when you poured out I was there. Much appreciation.
